Objectives
- Provide Native Hawaiians with competent legal and technical
assistance to preserve and protect their water rights, provide for the
meaningful exercise of those rights, and to promote their access to water;
- Help increase knowledge, awareness and capabilities of Native
Hawaiian individuals and communities regarding their legal rights, and
potential threats to them;
- Work with Native Hawaiians to increase their practical knowledge
and experience in the law, the legal system and related administrative
processes which will empower them to exercise control over community resources;
- Support actions that lead to just settlement of Hawaiians'
claims for breaches of the Hawaiian Home Lands and Ceded Lands trusts;
- Help Native Hawaiians maximize their natural, physical and
financial resources to stimulate rival, enhancement and maintenance of
their traditional lifestyles and culture;
- Provides training and technical assistance to help Native Hawaiians
develop economic self-sufficiency through development projects;
- Create an available educational and legal research base to
support efforts by Native Hawaiians to reestablish their right to self-determination
and to restore and secure their land and all rights to their water and
other natural resources.
